Robert & Martin, 2010
From the Skinboat & The Star carol service (thank you Natasha!)
In the middle of the sigh and wheeze and weird of this time between Christmas and New Year, I just sat down for a few minutes and turned the recorder on. I found myself telling a story from the snowy acres of Minneapolis, many years ago.
But today you locate me back in misty Walsingham, at Divine Liturgy while the first early birds will be listening to this. Almost a week before I did the long drive from Devon to East Anglia, stopping off for a Christmas swim in Dorset. I’ve had precious time with the family, played darts, taken part in quizzes, wrapped and unwrapped presents, attended midnight mass, not written anything, not told stories, generally allowed a nice, deep inhale at the end of the year. I would wish you the very same. I am terrible at anything approaching a traditional holiday – I love my work – but have taken the booty off the gas just a little.
There’s lots coming from Beasts & Vines I’m excited about for 2025, and in the meantime, I wish us all a very happy, nay delightful, New Year.
